Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 have caused tremendous destruction in Turkey’s Mediterranean, Southeastern Anatolia, and Eastern Anatolia regions, as well as in northern Syria. The total death toll in the two countries was more than 50,000 at the time of preparation of our journal, while in Turkey 80,000 people were injured and 6,400 buildings collapsed. About 50 percent of homes in the affected regions of Turkey are covered by earthquake insurance.

“Fire” alarm in global markets
Last year, property and casualty insurance focused on the results of skyrocketing policy prices due to vehicle costs, while companies also faced a challenging environment in the fire insurance branch due to global developments and high inflation rates. As the decline in global reinsurance capacity began to impact prices, premiums increased many times over, particularly in industry segments such as fire and engineering.
AXA buys Groupama subsidiaries in Turkey
AXA is strengthening its presence in Turkey through an agreement to purchase Groupama’s Turkish subsidiaries. AXA announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Groupama’s insurance operations in Turkey. AXA will acquire 100 percent of the shares in Groupama Investment Bosphorus Holding AŞ, which is wholly owned by Groupama Sigorta AŞ and Groupama Hayat AŞ.
Maher Holding invests in science
Maher Holding, which operates in the insurance industry through its subsidiaries Quick Sigorta and Corpus Sigorta, is investing in Vaccizone, a vaccine project led by Professor Nesrin Özören, head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Boğaziçi University.

Allianz was ranked as the 24th most valuable brand by Brand Finance Global 500, the list of the world’s most valuable brands. Allianz, which increased its brand value by 20 percent to 46.7 billion euros, also became the world’s leading brand in global insurance and asset management.

Eko-Lojik: Turkey is the only country where fossil fuel consumption is growing
Euronews reported that Turkey will meet 84 percent of its energy needs from fossil fuels in 2021, compared with an average of 70 percent in the European Union. This ratio has increased by three percentage points in Turkey over the past 30 years, while it has decreased from 83 to 70 percent in the EU.
